Election Day 2016: Don’t Sit This One Out

Your preferred candidate may or may not have won their party’s nomination.  Either way, you must vote on Nov. 8.

In 2016, for the first time ever, some candidates running for office are attacking our Second Amendment rights rather than talking about enforcing our current laws and locking up criminals who misuse firearms. The balance of the Supreme Court is at stake.

Why I Fight to Preserve Everyone’s Off-Roading Right

Pack it in, Pack it out OR Lose the Right to use it!
The Sad but Real Truth about the Endangered Off-Road Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Audrey Mason.  I have been an active off-roader my entire life. I currently ride a Honda 400ex, and cruise in an YJ jeep with my husband K.J. Mason. I was introduced to SDORC, a non-profit political coalition of volunteers dedicated to protecting and preserving off-roading, through our family Rob & Kathleen Smith. The Smith’s are long time active members of SDORC (San Diego Off Road Coalition) coordinating large events, raising awareness and spreading the word of important current issues and top legislation endangering our off-roading lifestyle. For example, land closures, lawsuits, potential endangered species, most issues that off-roaders are facing and are unaware of.

"Cash for Clunkers" is an Environmental Clunker

The "Cash for Clunkers" amendment, included as part of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (HR 2454), states that "For each eligible trade-in vehicle, the title of which is transferred to a dealer under the Program, the dealer shall certify to the Secretary, in such a manner as the Secretary shall prescribe by rule, that the vehicle, including the engine and drive train - i) will be crushed or shredded within such period and in such manner as the Secretary prescribes, or will be transferred to an entity that will ensure that the vehicle will be crushed or shredded within such period and in such manner as the Secretary prescribes; and ii) has not been, and will not be, sold, leased, exchanged or otherwise disposed of for use as an automobile in the United States or in any other country, or has been or will be transferred, in such a manner as the Secretary prescribes, to an entity that will ensure that the vehicle has not been, and will not be, sold, leased, exchanged or otherwise disposed of for use as an automobile in the United States or in any other country."

"Cash for Clunkers is loaded with so many potholes that the American people will be paying a steep bill both economically and environmentally for a long time," continued Lowe. "In addition to the wasteful nature of destroying perfectly good vehicles, a tremendous amount of energy and resources will be exhausted to build new vehicles to replace the scrapped ones. Providing incentives for motorists to have their current vehicles maintained for fuel efficiency would be a much better use of federal money that would truly benefit the environment."

Interested parties can send an e-mail in opposition to the Cash for Clunkers program to the Speaker of the House, the Senate Majority Leader and their congressional representatives by visiting www.fightcashforclunkers.org and clicking on "Take Action."

About Fight Cash for Clunkers: The Fight Cash for Clunkers organization opposes the inclusion of a Cash for Clunkers provision in the economic stimulus package currently being considered by Congress, instead favoring tax credits to help upgrade, repair or maintain older vehicles, as well as tax deductions for interest on car loans and state sales tax. Dissecting a Court Ruling

The news release started with this paragraph.  "A saga over 15 years in the making has ended well for common sense and dune riding access. The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today rejected appeals from the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), and upheld the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) 2013 Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) management plan. The Plan restored motorized dune vehicle access to most of the ISDRA areas closed on an “interim” basis in a 2001 settlement agreement. After nearly a decade of study and planning, BLM determined these areas were appropriate for dune vehicle riding."
